After finishing second in three consecutive graded stakes events, a game Go Between defeated Well Armed by a neck to take the Aug. 24 Pacific Classic (gr. I) at Del Mar.

Trained by Bill Mott, the 5-year-old son of Point Given won the Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes in January before turning in second-place efforts in the March 1 Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I), April 20 Ben Ali Stakes (gr. III), and June 28 Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes (gr. I).

Go Between is just the second horse Mott has started in the Pacific Classic. His only other entrant, Cigar, was famously defeated by Dare and Go in 1996 while attempting to win his 17th consecutive race.

A homebred for Peter Vegso, Go Between has now won seven stakes races and finished second or third in 11 more. Other homebred stakes winners for Vegso this year include War Monger, who won the Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes, and Silver Tree, a multiple grade II winner who recently took the Oceanport Stakes (gr. IIIT). Both are trained by Mott.

Vegso bred Go Between in Florida out of the stakes-winning Caerleon mare Mediation. He bought the Irish-bred mare in foal to Gone West for $375,000 at the 1999 Keeneland November mixed sale from Lakland, agent.

All six of MediationÕs foals to race are winners, including group II-placed Extreme Beauty. Vegso tried to sell the mare at the 2003 Keeneland November mixed sale, but she failed to meet her reserve when bidding stopped at $90,000.

Mediation has an unraced juvenile colt by Orchard Park named Matai. Orchard Park, a Vegso homebred, was a multiple grade III winner and full brother to Silver Tree.

After aborting a Proud Citizen foal in 2007, Mediation delivered a full sister to Go Between May 6. She has been bred to Dynaformer.

Point Given is the sire of 12 stakes winners including additional 2008 added-money winners Air Commander (gr. II), Fareena, Willsboro Point, and SheÕs Sensational. The 10-year-old son of Thunder Gulch stood the 2008 season at Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky., for $15,000.ÑA.H.D.
