July 4 was a big day for Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt, owners of WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., and for farm stallion Distorted Humor. Any Given Saturday, who won that day’s Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park, was bred by Racehorse Management, which is a division of WinStar. Any Given Saturday races for WinStar in partnership with Satish and Anne Sanan’s Padua Stables.

WinStar also is the breeder of Funny Cide, who captured the Wadsworth Memorial Handicap at Finger Lakes on the holiday. Funny Cide, voted 2003 champion 3-year-old male after winning the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I), and Any Given Saturday are both sons of Distorted Humor.

Any Given Saturday, who was making his first start since finishing unplaced in the May 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), galloped home to win the Dwyer by four lengths from Nobiz Like Shobiz. The latter also was making his first start since an unplaced effort in the Run for the Roses.

Any Given Saturday was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, to the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale, where Buzz Chace, agent, bought him for $1.1 million. Any Given Saturday began his racing career for WinStar and Maverick Racing.

Located near Summerfield, Fla., Padua also was represented on the holiday by homebred stakes winner Electrify. A stakes winner the last two years, Electrify captured the Mecke Stakes at Calder Race Course.

Padua’s big stakes winner this year is classic winner Curlin, who is raced in partnership. Curlin won the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and ran second in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) and third in the Kentucky Derby. Padua also is represented this year by homebred added-money winner Cream Only and as breeder by stakes winner Nerve.

Any Given Saturday is the second stakes winner from the A.P. Indy mare Weekend in Indy. Her first added-money winner, Bohemian Lady, who was bred by WinStar, raced for Padua, winning the Cicada Stakes (gr. III) and Affectionately and Rare Treat Handicaps. Weekend in Indy produced a dead foal by Distorted Humor this year and is back in foal to him.

WinStar’s other 2007 stakes winners are graded winners Sharp Susan (a homebred) and Cowtown Cat. The latter, a son of Distorted Humor, is raced in partnership.

Distorted Humor has sired 58 stakes winners. His 18 stakes winners of 2007 also include Hystericalady (gr. I), Fourty Niners Son (gr. IIT), Like It Is (Aust-II), Bit of Whimsy (gr. IIIT), and The Nth Degree (gr. IIIT). Distorted Humor’s fee at WinStar is $225,000.—D.S.
