Leroidesanimaux proved he can win outside of California. And not just win, but win big. His victory in the Aug. 27 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) came in course-record time of 1:33.92 over the Saratoga inner turf course.

Leroidesanimaux went into the Fourstardave as a proven big winner, scoring grade I grass wins in his last two starts. He ended the 2004 season with a victory in the Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park and captured this year’s Frank E. Kilroe Mile Handicap at Santa Anita. His lone loss since his importation from his native Brazil came in January of 2004 in his first start in the United States.

Brazilian owners, Goncalo and Regina Borges Torrealba, who race the Fourstardave winner in the name of T N T Stud, are enjoying a big year. They also campaign graded winners Melhor Ainda and License To Run, plus Lundy’s Liability in the name Stud TNT in a partnership. Lundy’s Liability, winner of the San Antonio Handicap (gr. II) in February, and Leroidesanimaux, are by Candy Stripes.

Melhor Ainda has proved extra special. She started her career winning her first four starts, three of which were stakes. In her last two races, she ran second in the American Oaks (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park and finished a neck behind the winner in a third-place effort in the Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT) at Arlington Park.

Leroidesanimaux’s first two dams, Dissemble and Kerali, were bred in England by Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms. Dissemble spent nine years in Brazil, where all three of her stakes winners were born. She arrived in North America in 2002, and since then produced a War Chant filly in 2004 for Indian Creek Farm and Stonerside Stable and a Giant’s Causeway colt this year for Indian Creek and Alessandro Arcangeli.

Dissemble is kept at Indian Creek (Shack Parrish, president) near Paris, Ky., where she is in foal to Storm Cat. Indian Creek owns 75% of her.

Candy Stripes has sired 55 stakes winners, including additional 2005 stakes winners Equipado (Uru-I), Ilha Da Vitoria (SAf-II), Banshee Brad, and Quiet Style (in Uruguay). Candy Stripes has stood in both North and South America, and at last report stands at Haras Carampangue in Argentina.—D.S.
