O'Neill Aims at Fifth Gold Cup With Informed

Trainer Doug O'Neill, perfect in four previous tries in the TVG/Betfair Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I), shoots for his fifth win since 2002 when he saddles Informed for the $700,000 Cushion Track event July 11.

  • Lone Star Derby winner El Gato Malo is the 122-pound highweight in the San Fernando Stakes.

El Gato Malo Among San Fernando's Dozen

El Gato Malo makes his third start since winning last year's Lone Star Derby (gr. III) in the $150,000 San Fernando Stakes (gr. II) Jan. 17. The beaten favorite in the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) is part of a wide open field of a dozen 4-year-olds in the 1 1/16-mile test over the Pro-Ride racing surface.

  • Tiago won the 2007 Goodwood (gr. I) and will break from post 8 in this year's renewal.

Goodwood Foes Will Test Pro-Ride Surface

The Goodwood Stakes (gr. I), as usual, serves as the main prep race in Southern California for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) this season. But for the 11 entered in this year's $500,000 renewal Sept. 24, it's also the first test of Santa Anita's new Pro-Ride synthetic racing surface and will go a long way toward determining which contenders move on.

  • Macho Again prepped for the Travers with a win in the Jim Dandy (gr. II) July 27. <br><a target="blank" href="http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/photo-store?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fpictopia.com%2Fperl%2Fgal%3Fprovider_id%3D368%26ptp_photo_id%3D5286679%0D%0A%26ref%3Dstory">Order This Photo</a>

    Wide-Open Field Set For Travers

Other than Big Brown, no 3-year-old has separated itself from the rest of the pack in 2008. That could all change Aug. 23 at Saratoga, as a full field of 12 will go to post in the $1 million Travers Stakes Presented by Shadwell Farm (gr. I), each horse seeking its place in history by attempting to win one of the oldest and most prestigious Thoroughbred races in North America.

  • Belmont winner Da' Tara is continuing his preparations for the Travers.

Da' Tara Fires 'Bullet' Work For Travers

Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Da' Tara fired a bullet work Aug. 15, and along with Jim Dandy (gr. II) winner Macho Again, head the likely field for the Aug. 23 Travers (gr. I).
