Eddie Delahoussaye visited Clockers' Corner at Santa Anita Thursday morning, walking sprightly as he recovers from an Aug. 30 riding spill at Del Mar that has put him on the sidelines and placed his riding career in jeopardy.

Another Spill at Belmont; Pleasant County Dies

John Velazquez, who was involved in a spill on Friday, was involved in another on Saturday at Belmont Park. Velazquez took off his first three mounts Saturday, then in his first mount back, fell aboard Imadeed as the horses hit the three-sixteenths pole in the Belmont Stakes Day fourth race, the WNBC.

Ward Assistant Azeff Seriously Injured During Training Hours

Yvonne Azeff, an assistant to trainer John T. Ward Jr., was injured Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park when she was thrown from the horse she was riding after it became agitated by another horse. Azeff was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital and was listed in "serious" condition as of 1:00 p.m.

Jockey Killed at Beulah Park

One jockey was killed and two others were injured Saturday when a horse stumbled coming down the stretch at Beulah Park. Arnold Ruiz, 33, of Arlington Heights, Ill., fell with Winds of Sonora and was run over by the two horses behind him, track steward Joe DeLuca said. Ruiz was pronounced dead of head injuries at Grant Hospital.

Chavez 'Day-To-Day' After Friday Spill

Jorge Chavez was tossed from Manorwood Stables' Whataboutus prior to the first race at Saratoga Friday, then rode the 2-year-old Clever Trick filly to a 2 1/4-length victory before taking off the rest of his mounts on the day. Chavez took off is Saturday mounts as well but may ride Sunday, according to his agent, Richard dePass.
