Two Proven Sprinters Top Mr. Prospector

The $100,000 Mr. Prospector Handicap (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park came up particularly strong with Summerplace Farm's 8-year-old gelding Kelly's Landing coming out for another season and Wind River Stable's 5-year-old Black Seventeen shipping in from California for the six-furlong dash on Jan. 17.

Eddie Kenneally will be seeking his first Breeders' Cup victory with Kelly's Landing, who finished 10th in the Sprint last year. Since that time, Kelly's Landing shipped across the world to defeat an international cast of sprinters as part of the Dubai World Cup card. The Breeders' Cup will mark Kelly's Landing's first start since his Dubai win.

Eddie Kenneally would rather his horses be fresh than have to worry about fatigue. The veteran trainer will put that theory to the test when he sends out multiple graded-stakes winner Kelly's Landing in the $2-milion TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) Oct. 27 at Monmouth Park.

Changing Owners, Trainers the Norm for Sprint Hopefuls

When considering Breeders' Cup fields, one would normally think the vast majority of horses are homebreds, or at least have been with one nurturing trainer and owner who have been pointing the horse to a certain championship race since it was a youngster. Nightmare Affair Turns Smile Upside Down

Nightmare Affair swung wide into the stretch from well out of it for jockey Jeffrey Sanchez and ran down the leaders for an impressive two-length victory in the $500,000 Smile Sprint Handicap (gr. II) on Summit Speed day at Calder Race Course Saturday. Champion sprinter Lost in the Fog struggled home ninth as the 11-10 favorite.

Lost in the Fog Even-Money Pick in Aristides

Harry T. Aleo's Lost in the Fog, the Eclipse Award sprint champion of 2005, will get a feel for the track that will host this year's renewal of the TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) when he takes on six rivals in Saturday's $150,000-added Aristides Breeders' Cup (gr. III) at Churchill Downs.
