Anne Walsh's Cactus Kris will look to win her second straight graded victory over the Woodbine synthetic track Nov. 15 in the Bessarabian Stakes (Can-III), but will have to defeat a pair of rivals who have beaten her.
Last into the stretch, Cactus Kris unleashed a thrilling burst of speed and swept past eight rivals in Ontario Fashion (gr. III) before nailing front-runner Endless Light in the final stride to win Oct. 18 at Woodbine.
Seven stakes winners, including two graded stakes winners, will line up for the grade III, six-furlong sprint at Woodbine.
Haras de Saint Pair and Monceaux Stable's Marbre Rose collared pacesetter Endless Light in the final strides and thrust out her nose on the finish line to win the $150,000 Seaway Stakes (Can-III) Aug. 8 at Woodbine.
Hillaby, a close second to Endless Light in the July 1 Sweet Briar Too Stakes, figures to be tighter second time out in the Aug. 8 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine. The seven-furlong race drew seven older fillies.
A deep field of a dozen distaffers will sprint 6 1/2 furlongs for a $400,000 pot in the Sept. 8 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (gr. II).
With the major spring Canadian classics behind us, it's time for the 3-year-old filly sprinters to take center stage in the $125,000 Duchess Stakes at Woodbine July 20.
