Soaring Softly overtook Coretta and Zomaradah late to take the first running of the Filly & Mare Turf, giving trainer Jimmy Toner with his first Breeders' Cup victory. She was later named champion turf female.

Perfect Sting finished 6th in the inaugural running of the Filly & Mare Turf, but in 2000 she took the lead in the stretch and held off all comers.

Starine, who finished 10th in 2001, came back in 2002 to defeat defending champ and stablemate Banks Hill by a length and a half.

Islington led a 1-2-3 finish for the Irish in the 2003 Filly & Mare Turf. She had finished a troubled 3rd in 2002.

2004 European Horse of the Year Ouija Board easily ran down pacesetter Moscow Burning to add the Filly & Mare Turf, and the Eclipse Award for Turf Female, to her resume for her owner, the 19th Earl of Derby.

Intercontinental, a full-sister to 2001 winner Banks Hill, led all the way and held off defending champ Ouija Board, in 2005.
