America's Horse: The late Alysheba was famous for winning the 1987 Kentucky Derby even after stumbling in the stretch.

Alysheba, a Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner and Horse of the Year, was euthanized March 27 at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute near Lexington.  The 25-year-old pensioned stallion, who resided at the Kentucky Horse Park, and was buried at the Park’s Hall of Champions across from the grave of the great John Henry.

Storm Mesa, a grade II-winning daughter of Sky Mesa, was retired from racing because of a fractured sesamoid in her right front leg.

Quality Road turned back a bid from even-money favorite Dunkirk in upper stretch and drew away for a sensational 1 3/4-length victory in the $750,000 Florida Derby (gr. I) March 28 at Gulfstream Park. The son of Elusive Quality set a new 1 1/8-mile course record in 1:47.72.

Sensational 3-year-old filly Justwhistledixie notched her fifth consecutive victory in the $200,000 Bonnie Miss (gr. II) March 27 at Gulfstream Park, further stamping herself as one of the top Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) contenders.

Favored This One's for Phil (left) was awarded victory in the $150,000 Swale Stakes (gr. II) when Big Drama was disqualified for interference in the stretch after posting a track record for seven furlongs at Gulfstream Park March 28.

One Caroline remained undefeated in five starts and continued to climb her way up the older filly-and-mare ranks when romping to a wire-to-wire 6 1/2-length victory in the $150,000 Rampart Stakes (gr. II) March 29 at Gulfstream Park.

Chevalier Stable’s Weathered repelled a bid from Winning Point in a determined stretch run to earn her first graded-stakes victory in the $100,000 Next Move (gr. III) March 28 at Aqueduct.

Kiss the Kid took advantage of a perfect trip from Elvis Trujillo and scored a half-length victory in the $100,000 Appleton Handicap (gr. IIIT) March 28 on the Gulfstream turf.
