Winchester Tries for Another Graded Score

While lightly raced this year, four-time grade I winner Winchester has by far the most decorated career heading into the Nov. 26 W.L. McKnight Handicap (gr. IIT) at Calder Casino & Race Course.

  • Zoom Wins Barbados Gold Cup Via DQ

Mrs. Gay Smith's homebred 6-year-old gelding Zoom was placed first in the March 5 Sandy Lane Barbardos Gold Cup in Bridgetown, Barbados, after fellow local Show Me the Money was disqualified after finishing first.

  • Mambo Meister cruised to a 7 3/4-length victory in the Memorial Day Handicap at Calder Race Course.

Mambo Meister Rolls in Memorial Day Handicap

Switching back to the main track was no problem for versatile Mambo Meister, as the 5-year-old romped to a 7 3/4-length victory as the odds-on favorite in the $100,000 Memorial Day Handicap (gr. III) May 31 at Calder.

  • Grand Cash leads a field of ten 3-year-olds in the Calder Derby.

Calder Derby, Oaks Draw 10 Apiece

Dave Vivian sent out Soldier's Dancer to win the Calder Derby (gr. IIIT) in 2007 and Christophe Clement won the 2008 edition with Sporting Art when the race was run in the spring, and those two veteran trainers will have the favorites in the Oct. 17 renewal of the $100,000 event.

  • Mambo Meister will battle favorite Motovato and ten others in the Spend a Buck Handicap.

Motovato Tops Full Spend a Buck H. Field

Marty Wolfson, who saddled Edmund Gann's It's a Bird in last year's Spend a Buck Handicap (gr. III), appears to have the solid favorite in the 2009 renewal with Gann's 4-year-old Motovato, a winner of three of four starts at the Calder Race Course meet.
