Pair of Homebreds Top Turfway Prevue Field

The 24th running of the $50,000 Turfway Prevue Stakes at Turfway Park Jan. 2 opens the track's stakes series for 3-year-olds and is the first prep for the Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) in March.

  • Lane's End winner Hold Me Back is the favorite for the Blue Grass.

Hold Me Back Favored in Blue Grass

WinStar Farm's Hold Me Back, winner of the Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway Park, was installed as the moderate 3-1 morning-line favorite when 11 horses were entered for the April 11 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland.

  • THS: Lane's End Stakes

Jason, Evan, and the Wizard discuss the Lane's End Stakes. Plus, a look back at the Derby prep action from the weekend of March 14.

  • Bittel Road is the morning line co-favorite for the March 21 Lane's End Stakes.

'Bernie, Bittel Road Lane's End Choices

Because of successful juvenile campaigns, West Side Bernie and Bittel Road both already have enough graded earnings to ensure themselves a spot in the starting gate for the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) May 2. But the connections of each colt will now get to see if they have legitimate contenders in their barns when they go to post in the $500,000 Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) March 21 at Turfway Park.

  • Old Fashioned preps for the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

    Southwest Starts Old Fashioned's Season

Unbeaten Old Fashioned, at the top of many early prognostications for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), makes his 2009 debut in the $250,000 Southwest Stakes (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park Feb. 16.

  • Claimer Loch Dubh Wins Turfway Prevue

Loch Dubh proved himself a good investment Jan. 3 at Turfway Park, drawing off to win the $50,000 Turfway Prevue Stakes in his second start off a $15,000 claim at Churchill Downs.

  • Turfway Prevue First Test For Sophomores

The first stakes race of Turfway Park's new winter/spring meet is also the first chance to gauge hopefuls for the Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) later in the meet. The $50,000 Turfway Prevue Stakes on Jan. 3, written for 3-year-olds racing 6 1/2 furlongs, is the first of three local prep races for the Lane's End, which is in turn a major prep for the Kentucky Derby (gr. I).
