New Orleans Ladies: So Who Will Rachel Face?

The connections of Rachel Alexandra admit that the reigning Horse of the Year will not be 100% cranked for her 4-year-old debut, which will come in the $200,000 New Orleans Ladies Stakes March 13 at Fair Grounds Races & Slots

  • Informed Decision is on a 4 race winning streak.<br><a target="blank" href="http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/photo-store?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fpictopia.com%2Fperl%2Fgal%3Fprovider_id%3D368%26ptp_photo_id%3D8063311%26ref%3Dstory">Order This Photo</a>

Hard to Make Case Against Informed Decision

Informed Decision, on a four-race winning streak following back-to-back grade I wins for trainer Jonathan Sheppard, towers over the field for the $150,000 Chicago Handicap (gr. III), the Independence Day headliner at Arlington Park.

  • Sea Chanter's last stakes win came in the Miesque at Hollywood Park in November 2007.<br><a target="blank" href="http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/photo-store?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fpictopia.com%2Fperl%2Fgal%3Fprovider_id%3D368%26ptp_photo_id%3D2860419%26ref%3Dstory">Order This Photo</a>

DuPont Distaff: Darley Duo Tops Slight Field

Darley Stable's tandem of Sea Chanter and Skylighter look best in a seven-horse field entered for the $150,000 Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes (gr. II) at Pimlico May 16. The options could narrow, though, if Sea Chanter and another well-regarded entry, Striking Tomisue, run instead in the Shuvee Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park the same day.

  • Leah's Secret and Eibar Coa take the Sunshine Millions Distaff.<br><a target="blank" href="http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/photo-store?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fpictopia.com%2Fperl%2Fgal%3Fprovider_id%3D368%26ptp_photo_id%3D7536705%26ref%3Dstory">Order This Photo</a>

    Leah's Secret Dominates Millions Distaff

The stalking favorite Leah's Secret pulled clear of her rivals in the final furlong to impressively win the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff, the last of four rich stakes races at Santa Anita Jan. 24, for her third consecutive stakes win.

  • Rolling Sea takes the Truly Bound, one of 6 wins for Steve Asmussen at Fair Grounds on Jan. 17.

Asmussen Wins Six at Fair Grounds

If you spent your Saturday wagering on horses trained by Steve Asmussen at Fair Grounds, you had reason to smile at the end of the day. Last year's leading trainer nationally by wins saddled starters in seven races on the 10-race card and won six, twice ran one-two, and captured the day's stakes race.

  • Spring Waltz heads a field of 12 in the Falls City Handicap Nov. 27 at Churchill Downs.

Spring Waltz Ready for Falls City Dance

Spring Waltz, winner of the Rampart Handicap (gr. II) for trainer Bobby Frankel earlier this year, carries top weight of 120 pounds in a full field of 12 fillies and mares for the $150,000 Falls City Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 27.

  • Leah's Secret holds off Unforgotten to win the Chilukki Nov. 2 at Churchill Downs.

Leah's Secret Too Tough in Chilukki Win

Leah's Secret, up against an easier field than she faced in two starts this summer, drew clear in the stretch and held off the late charge of Unforgotten to win the $170,400 Chilukki Stakes (gr. II) by a half-length at Churchill Downs Nov. 2.

  • Maren's Meadow won the Bourbonette (gr. III) this past spring at Turfway Park. <br><a target="blank" href="http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/photo-store?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fpictopia.com%2Fperl%2Fgal%3Fprovider_id%3D368%26ptp_photo_id%3D3958581%0D%0A%26ref%3Dstory">Order This Photo</a>

Hystericalady Rolls to Molly Pitcher Win

In what amounted to a little more than a workout, Hystericalady defended her title in the $300,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes (gr. II) with ease Aug. 24, romping to an eight-length victory on the Monmouth Park dirt at odds of 1-9.

  • Swift Temper Pulls Gardenia Shocker

Swift Temper, who was 2-for-18 lifetime and had not won since February 2007, pulled off a shocker in the $150,000 Gardenia Handicap (gr. III) Aug. 16 at Ellis Park, romping to a 4 1/2-length victory under Victor Lebron at odds of 21-1.

  • Tessa Blue will meet Golden Velvet once again in the Sixty Sails Handicap.

Fillies and Mares Rematch in Sixty Sails

  • Rolling Sea

    Porter on Pedigrees: Rolling Sea

One of the great charms of Thoroughbred racing is that it has always been possible for a good horse to emerge from almost anywhere. The diminishing gap between the best and rest, however, will probably make this an increasingly likely occurence. One example is Rolling Sea, who won the Chilukki Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 3. She is by a sire who stands for $2,500 and is out of mare who finished fourth in a $6,500 claimer in her final race.

  • Rolling Sea holds off High Heels to take Chilukki.

Rolling Sea Sails to Chilukki Score

Millennium Farms' Rolling Sea won for the sixth time this year, stalking the pace and then taking a clear lead in the stretch before holding on to win the $200,000 Chilukki Stakes (gr. II) by a half-length at Churchill Downs Nov. 3.

  • High Heels looks to rebound after a ninth place finish in the Spinster (gr.I) at Keeneland.

Spinster Finishers Match Up Again in Chilukki

After finishing seventh and ninth respectively in the Spinster Stakes (gr. I) over the Polytrack at Keeneland Oct. 7, Rolling Sea and High Heels will drop down in company, shorten up to the one-mile distance, and tackle each other again in the Nov. 3 Chilukki Stakes (gr. II) on the dirt at Churchill Downs.
