Moreno is scheduled for his first start in the Pelican State Saturday, in the $400,000 New Orleans Handicap (gr. II) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
Shared Belief, who most recently won the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I), and Bayern, winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) in his last start last November, are among 56 nominees for the April 18 Charles Town Classic.
Moreno, a homebred grade I winner for Southern Equine Stable, will head to Fair Grounds for the New Orleans Handicap (gr. II) March 28, trainer Eric Guillot said.
The $1.5 million Charles Town Classic (gr. II) is now on the radar as a next possible start for champion Shared Belief.
Shared Belief did what was expected of him in the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) March 7, blowing an overmatched group of horses away with ease.
Clubhouse Ride, a $22,000 purchase from a 2010 Barretts sale who went on to earn more than $1.3 million, has been retired to stud at Harris Farms near Coalinga, Calif.
The field for the $1 million, 1 1/4-mile Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) March 7 is full, but beyond headliner Shared Belief, the race lacks the potential star power that appeared to be possible when nominations came out.
For the fifth race in a row, a formidable Bob Baffert-trained contender is looming to take on Shared Belief. Only Bayern, in the Breeders' Cup Classic, has got the best of the dark bay gelding.
