Lukas Shooting for Seventh Debutante Win

Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas has left his mark on many stakes races at Churchill Downs, but none have felt his impact more than the $100,000-added Debutante Stakes (gr. III).

Lukas Looks to Make History in Debutante

The Debutante Stakes (gr. III) has been run at Churchill Downs for more than a century. A win in Friday's 103rd renewal by D. Wayne Lukas would put the Hall of Fame trainer in very exclusive territory. Lukas will be shooting that day for an unprecedented fifth victory in the race.

Future Uncertain for Awesome Humor After First Career Loss

The return to competition by WinStar Farm's previously unbeaten Awesome Humor on Wednesday at Churchill Downs did not turn out as well as hoped, so trainer Elliott Walden will take a "wait and see" approach on a game plan that had been pointing the filly toward the $250,000 Acorn (gr. I) at Belmont Park on June 6.

Awesome Humor Upsets Churchill's Debutante

Tom Durant's Awesome Humor rallied wide at the top of the stretch under jockey Calvin Borel and went on to post a two-length victory over Vibs in Saturday's $109,500, grade III Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs.
