    Keeneland November Sale Slumps at Start

    The opening session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale generated some fireworks, but the results were a lot less spectacular than in 2007 when the gross revenue ($109,064,000) and the number of horses sold for $1 million or more apiece (28) established world Thoroughbred auction records for a single sale session. Also last year, Playful Act set a $10.5-million world mark for a broodmare or broodmare prospect, which since has been eclipsed by Better Than Honour's $14-million price.

    BC Sale Horses: How They Did

    A number of female runners that competed in the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park are entered in the upcoming Fasig-Tipton November select mixed and Keeneland November breeding stock sales in Lexington. By far the most successful was Stardom Bound, who scored in the Bessemer Trust Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) as the favorite. She is Hip No. 65 in the Fasig-Tipton auction, which is scheduled for Nov. 2.

    Indian Blessing 2-1 Choice in F&M Sprint

    Champion Indian Blessing drew post position 5 and was installed the 2-1 morning-line favorite in a full field for the Sentient Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa Anita Oct. 21. That puts the front-running filly three outside another speedster, 12-1 Indyanne, in the seven-furlong event.

  • Zayat Adheres to Plan, Selling Horses

    Following his business plan, Ahmed Zayat of Zayat Stables will offer more than 70 horses, including grade III winner Baroness Thatcher, during the 2008 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, which begins Nov. 3. Eaton Sales will consign the horses, which will include racing, broodmare, and stallion prospects, as well as a few weanlings.
