  • Solow

    Pedigree Analysis: Solow

Looking at his pedigree, it's not too surprising that Solow's connections -- trainer Freddy Head and owner/breeders Wertheimer et Frere -- would have expected Solow to require a test of stamina.

  • Queen's Jewel wins the Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary.

Solow, Queen's Jewel Win at Longchamp

Trainer Freddy Head and jockey Maxime Guyon teamed for a group I double May 24 at Longchamp, winning the Prix d'Ispahan with Solow and the Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary with Queen's Jewel.

  • A Third Dollar for Cirrus Des Aigles

Thought earlier this year to have his best days behind him, Cirrus Des Aigles showed he still had his competitive fire when winning the Qatar Prix Dollar (Fr-II) for the third time Oct. 5 at Longchamp.

  • Group I Double for Sire Monsun at Longchamp

Maxios got up in the closing strides to deny Planteur victory in the Prix d'Ispahan (Fr-I) and Silasol won the Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (Fr-I), giving deceased sire Monsun a group I double May 26 at Longchamp.

  • Goldikova wins the 2011 Prix d'Ispan.

    Goldikova Repeats in Prix d'Ispahan

Goldikova picked up right where she left off last season, notching another group I victory as she held off the late charge of Cirrus Des Aigles to capture the $353,785 Prix d'Ispahan (Fr-I) at Longchamp May 22.

  • Best of the Bests Upsets Banks Hill in Prix d'Ispahan

Best of the Bests rebounded from a seventh-place finish in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) to upset Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT) winner Banks Hill in the Prix d'Ispahan (Fr-I) on Sunday at Longchamp.

  • European Race Report: A Sight to See

Declaring the course a "mud pie" after walking a circuit at Newbury on May 18, trainer John Gosden shipped Khalid Abdullah's Observatory to Longchamp for the May 20 Prix d'Ispahan (Fr-I). The change resulted in a group I win for the homebred son of Distant View, ridden by Abdullah's new stable jockey, Richard Hughes. Observatory had been supplemented for 50,000 French francs ($6,722) into the extended nine furlongs during the week but his defection left Newbury's Lockinge Stakes (Eng-I), sponsored by Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, without a marquee horse. Seven turned out for the straight mile with trainer Michael Stoute bagging the British season's first group I for older horses with Cheveley Park Stud's Medicean.
