A week after Mohaymen finished fourth in his final Kentucky Derby prep, Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Stable will have another potential star 3-year-old race when Shagaf tries the Wood Memorial April 9.
The partnership of Lady Sheila Stable and trainer Linda Rice last year found great success with a mare and a filly, but on April 9 the focus will be on the 3-year-old colt Matt King Coal in the Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I).
Shadwell's homebred 3-year-old Shagaf has won his three starts by a combined margin of almost 10 lengths, but trainer Chad Brown believes he hasn't reached his limit.
Trainer said Bernardini colt gained plenty of experience in stakes debut.

The New York State Gaming Commission and The New York Racing Association March 26 announced enhanced security measures for horses competing in the April 5 Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Horses competing in the April 6 Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) at Aqueduct Racetrack and the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) at Santa Anita park will be monitored beginning April 3 as part of enhanced security measures.
