Stoute-Trained Kris Kin Wins English Derby

A massive public gamble was landed Saturday at Britain's Epsom Downs when Kris Kin came late to secure a decisive victory in the Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I). Owner Saeed Suhail had paid £90,000 to supplement Kris Kin for the race, even though he had been entered originally as a yearling at a cost of only £310 and subsequently scratched last autumn.

Galileo Gives O'Brien Another Classic Double

Trainer Aidan O'Brien, who recently swept both the Irish One Thousand (Ire-I) and Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I), completed another classic double at Epsom Saturday when Galileo gave him his first Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) victory. Galileo's win also completed a classic sweep for sire Sadler's Wells, who also sired Friday's Epsom Oaks (Eng-I) winner, the O'Brien-trained Imagine.

149 Remain Nominated to Vodafone Derby

A total of 149 horses remain in the 2001 Vodafone Derby, run at Epsom on Saturday, June 9, after the first forfeit stage. They include 32 trained in Ireland, 19 currently stabled in Dubai and six from France. The number of entries at this stage has been bettered only once in the last four years.
