State Lifts Quarantine of One Turfway Park Barn

The Kentucky State Veterinarian's office lifted the quarantine of Barn 26 at Turfway Park Jan. 19 after results of tests taken the week of Jan. 9 indicated negative results for equine herpesvirus.

Five Horses at Turfway Confirmed Positive for EHV

The Kentucky State Veterinarian's Office announced Dec. 30 that, while 11 horses from Turfway Park's Barn 26 that previously tested positive for equine herpesvirus now test negative, five horses still tested positive. They quarantined seven horses in the outrider's barn.

More Tests Scheduled for Horses Exposed to Virus

Horses in Barn 26 at Turfway Park were to be retested the evening of Dec. 28 for evidence of equine herpesvirus to determine if any other horses are positive for the virus, said Rusty Ford of the Kentucky State Veterinarian's office. Results are expected by the weekend.

Turfway Park Sets Memorial Service for Herrell

Turfway Park will hold a memorial service for jockey James "Chris" Herrell at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, opening day of the track's holiday meet. The service will take place in the paddock and is open to the public.

Keeneland Continues Planning for Polytrack

Though it hasn't made an official decision on whether to install Polytrack on its main dirt track, the board of directors of Keeneland directed management Oct. 12 to continue with the planning, design, and engineering for the synthetic surface.

Stream Cat to Pounce in Lane's End

A field of 14 is set for Saturday's Lane's End Breeders' Futurity (gr. I) at Keeneland. The 92nd running of the 1 1/16 mile test for 2-year-olds features Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes (gr. III) winner Stream Cat, whose devastating closing kick has already earned him two stakes wins.

Biancone to Train Runners at Turfway Park

Trainer Patrick Biancone will stable 24 of his charges at Turfway Park through October to train over the track's Polytrack surface. The horses are expected on the grounds Oct. 2. Among them are Stream Cat, Angara, Henny Hughes, Luas Line, Pomeroy, Ball Four, and Asi Siempre.

Favorite Spanish Chestnut Draws Post 8 for Lane's End

Spanish Chestnut, the only graded stakes winner in the bunch, drew post 8 Thursday afternoon for Saturday's $500,000 Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway Park. The West Coast shipper was installed the 5-2 morning line favorite by Turfway's announcer and odds maker Mike Battaglia. The nine-furlong prep for the May 7 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) drew a field of nine.
