Everyone knew what was coming. Frankel the Fox was honed in on another kill, and no one could stop it. When the weekend had ended, Frankel won the Turf Classic with Timboroa, had a third in the Flower Bowl with the fast-closing Starine, and another grade I victory the following day with Senure in the Clement Hirsch, giving him 11 for the year. The only horse who ran poorly was The Seven Seas, and that was because she entrapped her epiglottis in the Yellow Ribbon.

King Cugat Draws Post 5 for Turf Classic

Centennial Farm's King Cugat will go after his first grade I victory Saturday after drawing post 5 for the $750,000 Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park. The Turf Classic is part of "Champions on Turf" Day at Belmont that also includes the running of the Flower Bowl Invitational (gr. IT) for fillies and mares at 1 1/4 miles and the 6 1/2-furlong Gallant Bloom Handicap (gr. II), also for fillies and mares.

Age proved no impediment to 9-year-old gelding John's Call, who led all the way Saturday in the $750,000 Turf Classic Invitational (gr. IT) at Belmont Park. Jean-Luc Samyn was the winning rider in both of the day's premier turf events, taking both the Turf Classic and the co-featured Flower Bowl Handicap (gr. IT).
