Soldat's bloodlines initially appear to indicate he could have problems with the Kentucky Derby's distance -- but he has close pedigree connections to good classic runners.
Many talented 3-year-olds, including champion Uncle Mo, and other graded stakes winners Soldat, The Factor, and Dialed In, are among the 162 nominees to Keeneland's Toyata Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) April 16.
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin confirmed March 1 that Darley Stable's promising 3-year-old colt Crossbow is off the Kentucky Derby trail due to a small bone chip discovered in his right front ankle.
The Kentucky Derby 137 Graded Stakes Earnings List includes all 3-year-oldscolts, geldings and fillies who were made eligible for this year's Triple Crown at $600 per horse when the early nomination period closed Jan. 22.

The Florida Derby (gr. I) would be next for Soldat following the colt's dominating two-length win in the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park, his trainer said Feb. 27.
