Powerscourt Gets Inside For Hong Kong Cup

After a dull effort in the Japan Cup (Jpn-I), Irish-bred Powerscourt hopes to rebound with a strong showing in the Dec. 12 $18 million (HK) Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup (HK-I) at Sha Tin. The Aiden O'Brien-trainee will break from barrier one under jockey Jamie Spencer in the 2,000-meter (1 ΒΌ-mile) race.

Antonius Pius Gets Outside Post in Hong Kong Mile

Irish jockey Jamie Spencer will have multiple views of Sha Tin Racecourse Dec. 12 during the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races. He will guide Powerscourt from the inside, breaking from barrier one in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup (HK-I), Brian Boru from barrier four in the $14 million (HK) Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase (HK-I), and Antonius Pius from the far outside barrier 14 in the $14 million (HK) Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile (HK-I).

Espinoza to Represent United States in Jockey Challenge

Jockey Victor Espinoza will represent the United States in the 2004 Cathay Pacific International Jockey Challenge Dec. 8 at Happy Valley. The event is a prelude to the Dec. 12 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races at Shi Tin.

Positive KOs Sarafan From Hong Kong Mile

Sarafan, who galloped over the track Thursday morning, was scratched from Sunday's Hong Kong Mile (HK-I) on the Hong Kong International Races program. The American-based runner, trained by Neil Drysdale, was reported to have tested positive for the steroid methylprednisolone.

Paolini Out of Hong Kong Cup

Mrs. Carde Ostemann-Richter's international star Paolini has been withdrawn from the Hong Kong Cup (HK-I) and will be replaced by local runner Blue Stitch. The $3.2 million Hong Kong Cup, run at 1 1/4 miles, is the centerpiece of the Hong Kong International Races to be held at Sha Tin on Dec. 14.

Domedriver Out of Hong Kong Mile

Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) winner Domedriver was scratched from Sunday's Hong Kong Mile (HK-I) at Sha Tin after veterinarians discovered he was lame in his right hind leg. Trainer Pascal Barry said the lameness was due to an abcess in his right hind leg.

Val Royal to Skip Hong Kong Mile

Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) hero Val Royal will not make the trip to Hong Kong to contest the December 16 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin Racecourse after developing a slight quarter crack, trainer Julio Canani revealed.

Val Royal, Sunline Head Hong Kong International Cast

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has announced that 40 horses from nine different countries have made the final cut for the four group races that will be contested at Sha Tin Racecourse on Dec. 16. Included among the top horses scheduled to compete in the Hong Kong International races are this year's Breeders' Cup Mile winner Val Royal as well as three winners of International races last year who are back to defend their titles.
