Hialeah Park Casino announced May 14 the return of full card simulcasting on Preakness Day, May 18, and every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday thereafter.
John J. Brunetti has announced that his son, John J. Brunetti Jr., and racing industry veterans Randall E. Soth and Dennis Testa will head up the management team for the redeveloped Hialeah Park. The South Florida track that last had live racing in 2001 is scheduled to reopen later this year or in early 2010 for Quarter Horse racing.
The finalists for 2008 Eclipse Awards were released Jan. 8, with the winners to be announced Jan. 26 at a ceremony in Miami, Fla. The finalists are not announced for Horse of the Year until the awards ceremony.

With Hurricane Frances bearing down on the East Coast of Florida, Calder Race Course announced on Thursday morning that it will be closed for both live racing and simulcasting on Friday and Saturday. The track hopes to re-open on Sunday.

Attendance and wagering figures at the recently concluded Calder Race Course meet were down despite the popularity of the track's marquee events--the Summit of Speed and Festival of the Sun.
Extreme rain and lightening in the north Miami area Tuesday afternoon cause four races at Calder Race Course to be cancelled. Five live races were conducted before the jockeys expressed concerns about safety while the track maintenance crew continued to work on the track during the storm.
Calder Race Course near Miami, Fla., announced a purse increase that took effect with the Friday, June 14 race card. The increase affects all overnight purses.
Modeled after other states that have state-bred days, Florida will run six races at Calder Race Course near Miami on Nov. 16, 2002. The program will be called Florida-Bred Cup Day.
Calder Race Course Wednesday released nominations for the four stakes comprising Grand Slam I on Dec. 8. Each race is worth $100,000.
