Jersey Governor OKs Purse Supplements

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine signed legislation April 11 that allows a $90-million purse supplement for New Jersey racetracks to move forward. Now, the racing industry must decide how the money will be divvied up for purses at perhaps four racetracks.

New Jersey Racing Schedule in Turmoil Again

A deal thought to have been struck between horsemen and racetrack management for 2002-2003 racing dates in the Garden State fell apart Dec. 20 during a sometimes-contentious New Jersey Racing Commission meeting. One racing official said the "climate of pettiness" is threatening live racing in the state.
