  • OBS Reports Five Riding Crop Violations

    The set of uniform policies developed by four major auction firms Barretts, Fasig-Tipton, Keeneland, and the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. took effect beginning with the OBS February select sale of 2-year-olds in training Feb. 17 in Central Florida. The policies address medication, prohibited practices, riding crops, and horseshoes. "As the first sale under these new guidelines, I thought it went tremendously well," said Tom Ventura, the OBS general manager and director of sales.

French agent Abeth Mussat purchased her from Haras d'Etreham. Sarissa, who is in foal to Dylan Thomas, has produced two winners in Japan, Rock of Sarissa (by Rock of Gibraltar) and Loulan Reverse (by Montjeu).

    Sky Gate, a 3-year-old son of Arch, brought 47,000 guineas to top the Tattersalls February mixed sale in England. Bloodstock agent Hugo Merry, acting on behalf of American trainer Marty Wolfson, purchased the bay colt.

  • OBS February Sale Has 200 Juveniles

    The Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. has more horses for its February select sale of 2-year-olds in training than it did in 2008, according to Tom Ventura, the auction firm's general manager and director of sales. OBS will catalog 200 juveniles, up 16.3% from last year's total of 172.

The auctions that will remain on the calendar for Timonium are the sale of 2-year-olds in training in May, a fall yearling sale in late September/early October, and a mixed sale in December.
