Kentucky Derby Winner Barbaro Euthanized

Barbaro, who thrilled racing fans with his sublime victory in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and captivated many millions more worldwide with his gut-wrenching fight for life after suffering a catastrophic breakdown in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), was euthanized Jan. 29.

II), the marquee races of the Laurel Park winter meeting, have been canceled because of the equine herpesvirus outbreak, officials of the Maryland Jockey Club announced Feb. 20.

Fair Hill Training Center Takes EHV-1 Precautions

Fair Hill Training Center, home to more than 400 horses, has instituted stringent guidelines to ensure the well being of all horses stabled at the facility and to provide the best opportunity for those same horses to race when entry restrictions lift later this month as nearby out of state racetracks.
