Lord Avie, the champion 2-year-old male of 1980, died Dec. 28 at Blue Ridge Farm near Upperville, Va. Thoroughbred racing's oldest living Eclipse Award winner at age 34, he passed away peacefully from natural causes.

Bolstered by the revival of racing in Oklahoma and the continued increases in purses in Louisiana, there is "guarded optimism" among Texas breeders and sales company officials on the eve of the Fasig-Tipton Texas summer yearling sale.
Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 355 horses for its 2007 Texas Two-Year-Olds in training sale at Lone Star Park, in Grand Prairie, on April 3. The sale will be held in a continuous, single session beginning at 10 a.m. The under-tack show, over the main track at Lone Star, will be held on Sunday, April 1, from 10 a.m.
