Greely Named to Post at Arlington Park

Arlington Park announced today that Kevin Greely has been named vice president of racing and racing secretary. Greely joins Arlington Park following more than a decade with the Emirates Racing Association and Dubai Racing Club, where he served as secretary to the association and racing secretary.

Arlington Posts Modest Gains in 2005

The 94-day 2005 Arlington Park race meet concluded with a 0.8% increase in total handle and a 0.5% rise in average daily attendance over the track's 96-day meet in 2004. On track average daily handle decreased by 0.8% while total attendance slipped by 1.6% with two less days compared to a year ago.

Arlington Tote Board Catches Fire; No Injuries

Following the 10th and final race at Arlington Park on Saturday, the Arlington Park tote board, located in the infield, caught fire. All of the horses from the last race were off the racetrack and most of the patrons had left the building when smoke was detected by a security officer in the winner's circle at approximately 5:45 p.m. There was no evacuation and there were no injuries.

Contreras Released After Arlington Fall

Apprentice jockey Cruz Contreras, the leading jockey at Arlington Park, was taken by ambulance to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights following a two-horse spill in the second race Monday at the suburban Chicago racetrack.
