    Hours after lawmakers approved an initial step to expand non-Indian casino gambling in New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo raised the possibility that no racetrack casino will be among the future sites in the state.

  • Sabercat, Secret Circle highlight 13-horse Rebel

    Eleven of the 13 contestants in Saturday's Grade 2, $500,000 <a target="_blank" href="http://www.brisnet.com/edgeped/rebel12">Rebel Stakes </a>are based locally at Oaklawn Park, but Southern California invaders Sabercat and Secret Circle are the top draws in the 1 1/16-mile Kentucky Derby prep race for three-year-olds.

  • Santa Anita Moves San Luis Rey to March 25

    Due to a forecast calling for heavy rain over the weekend of March 17-18, Santa Anita racing officials have made the decision to postpone the $150,000 San Luis Rey Stakes (gr. IIT) on turf until March 25.

  • Breeders' Cup board offers discount on early, online foal nominations

    In response to its popularity among horsemen over the past three years, the Breeders' Cup board of directors has again approved an early foal nomination program deadline which allows for a $100 discount off the standard $500 nomination fee for all foals nominated electronically by August 1 to the Breeders' Cup program.

    A reduction in live race dates at Portland Meadows resulted in daily average increases in handle and purses for the 55-day meet in 2011-12 when compared with the 73-day meet in 2010-11.
