    John Sykes' stallion Alke has been sold and will stand at Sawangjai Farms in Thailand in 2010. The 9-year-old son of Grand Slam had been standing at Dr. Tom Simon's Vinery near Summerfield, Fla.

    Dubai Majesty Takes Franklin County Stakes

    Dubai Majesty notched her second stakes win of season Oct. 16 at Keeneland, edging clear of Libor Lady in mid-stretch en route to a 1 1/4-length victory in the $116,700 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes.

  • Tatts Book 3's Final Average Down 20%

    Book 3 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale ended Oct. 16 in England with a downturn from 2008 of 13.2% in gross revenue. The average price dropped 20%, and the median price was down 16.4%. The buy-back rate fell from 34.5% last year to 28.6% this year.

  • Knickerbocker Moved to Oct. 22

    Because of a forecast for heavy rain in the New York area during the latter half of the week and weekend, the New York Racing Association moved the $100,000 Knickerbocker Handicap (gr. IIIT) to Oct. 22.

  • Fabulous Strike has been first or second in five starts (all grade I or grade II sprints) during his 6-year-old campaign.

    Top Sprinters Pre-entered for De Francis Dash

    Three of the nation's elite sprinters and the top two local speedsters are among the 37 pre-entries for the 19th running of the $300,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash (gr. I) at Laurel Park Oct. 24.

    The inaugural U.S. Steeplechase Championships are set to go Saturday, Oct. 17, with six events being conducted in Far Hills, New Jersey, and five races from the International Gold Cup in The Plains, Virginia.

    Race dates for 2010 were approved for California by the state's horse racing board at its meeting Oct. 15, although the panel opted to wait until next month before giving authorization to the Northern California fair circuit, which requested more time to sort out details.
