    The nice thing about Flat Out's win in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park Jan. 19 is the colt did not look like he was "all out." He blew by the leaders and coasted home to the second victory in his short career.

    Artiste Royal Flies Home in San Marcos

    David and Jill Heerensperger's Artiste Royal didn't show his age when he went from last to first to win the $150.000 San Marcos Stakes (gr. IIT) at Santa Anita Park Jan. 19.

  • Printing Press, Dam of Lite Light, Dead

    Printing Press, dam of multiple grade I winner Lite Light, was euthanized earlier in the month because of complications from the infirmities of old age.

  • Sam Houston to Repair Storm Damage

    Sam Houston Race Park will begin repairs to the roof of its grandstand, as well as additional construction to rebuild portions of the stable and track areas, weather permitting beginning Jan. 22.

  • Keeneland Final Gross Down 53.4%

    The final results of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale in Lexington were sobering, with setbacks of 53.4% in gross revenue, 48% in average price, and 44.1% in median price from a year ago. But they weren't anything new to the people who market Thoroughbreds.

  • Tattersalls February Sale Has 222 Lots

    Tattersalls has cataloged 222 lots for its February mixed sale, which will be held Feb. 5 in England. The catalog can be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com.

  • Encosta de Lago Filly Tops MM Auction

    A 2-year-old Encosta de Lago – Fayfa filly brought the top price of Aust$100,000 (approximately $67,371 in U.S. funds) during Magic Millions' inaugural Summer Carnival Thoroughbred sale Jan. 18 on Australia's Gold Coast. Kevin Dixon of Racetree purchased the juvenile.

  • Great Leighs Racecourse Loses License

    Britain's newest racecourse Great Leighs, which opened in April of 2008 , had its licence withdrawn by the British Horseracing Authority on Jan. 16 and later that day went into administration, the equivalent of a receivership.
