In an eventful running of the $250,000 Three Chimneys Hopeful (gr. I), it was Vineyard Haven who avoided problems and cruised to victory in Saratoga's championship race for 2-year-olds Sept. 1.
Hostess kept the leaders in range throughout the easily paced $108,900 Glens Falls Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Saratoga, then burst past odds-on choice Dynaforce and two others mid-stretch for jockey Rajiv Maragh to post a neck victory Sept. 1. on the inner turf course.
Attendance and handle declined during the 2008 meeting at Saratoga, although the track staged a significant rebound during the second half of the 36-day summer stand.
Belmont Park's 38-day Fall Championship meeting begins on Sept. 5 with with first-race post at 1 p.m. General admission on Opening Day is free and there will be $2 off clubhouse admission as well.
Robert and Janice McNair's Stonerside Stable has been sold to Sheikh Mohammed's Darley.
