    Europe's yearling sale season makes its traditional return Aug. 15 in the picturesque surroundings of Deauville on the Normandy coast of France. Arqana has cataloged 515 lots for its August yearling sale, which runs through Aug. 18.

  • Clearly Foxy will miss the rest of the 2008 racing season.

    Clearly Foxy Sidelined With Ankle Injury

    Clearly Foxy, the third-place finisher in the American Oaks (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park July 5, has been sidelined with a hind ankle injury and will not race again this year, according to Overbrook Farm racing manager Chris Young.

    Evening Attire Hopes It's Off the Turf

    Evening Attire, the 10-year-old gelding who qualified for a starting berth to the inaugural running of the Breeders' Cup Marathon by winning the Greenwood Cup by 8 1/4 lengths at Philadelphia Park Casino & Racetrack in July, will be entered as a main-track-only participant for the $80,000 John's Call Stakes at Saratoga Aug. 17.

  • NYRA Bans Toe Grabs Effective Oct. 29

    Following the recommendation of The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Safety Committee, toe grabs with a height greater than two millimeters (.07874 inches) on front horseshoes will be banned from all horses racing at Saratoga, Belmont Park, and Aqueduct effecctive Oct. 29, opening day of the Aqueduct fall meet.

    Fair Grounds President Soth Resigns

    Churchill Downs Inc. announced Aug. 14 that Randall Soth, who since September 2004 has served as president of Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, is leaving CDI to pursue other career interests.

    Danevade, the dual group-placed full sister to Shania Dane and Scintillation, set a broodmare record for the Australian state of Victoria when she brought Aus.$1,050,000 during the opening session of the William Inglis & Son August Thoroughbred mixed auction in Melbourne Aug. 14.
