  • Eight Belles

    Eight Belles' Dam in Keeneland Sale

    Away, the dam of the ill-fated Eight Belles, has been entered in the Keeneland November breeding stock sale. An 11-year-old daughter of Dixieland Band, Away is Hip No. 271 and will be offered during the auction's opening session Nov. 3 in Lexington. She is in foal to Eight Belles's sire, Unbridled's Song.

  • Tattersalls' Book 1 Offers Quality

    Tattersalls officials were cautiously optimistic ahead of select book 1 of the October yearling sale, which starts Oct. 7 at Newmarket in England. There are 611 lots cataloged, 122 less than last year, and Tattersalls marketing director Jimmy George is hoping that the global economy will not have too great an impact.

    With trainer Steve Asmussen looking on, Curlin worked over the Pro-Ride synthetic surface at Santa Anita early the morning of Oct. 6. The trainer, who has made no secret of the fact that he prefers dirt over synthetic surfaces, said that he could not make any decision about Santa Anita's new surface on the basis of just one work.
