    Trainer Bret Calhoun earned the 1,000th victory of his career July 12 when first-time starter Timely Reflection, his only entrant on the Louisiana Downs program, rallied for a 2 3/4-length tally in the seventh race for maiden special weights.

  • Mullins' Stormin Away Heads Season-Ending Sunset

    Stormin Away will be aiming for his fourth win in five starts when he carries high weight of 119 pounds in the $150,000 Sunset Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIT), Hollywood Park's closing-day turf feature for the 69th spring/summer meet on Sunday.

  • Canterbury Plans 'Extreme' Race Day July 22

    Canterbury Park will feature several "extreme" races during its program July 22, including "The Battle of the Surfaces," a pari-mutuel race that will feature as many as 20 horses competing against each other on the turf and the dirt simultaneously.

    Rags to Riches' Coaching Club Oaks to Air on ESPN

    With Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Rags to Riches expected to make her next start in the July 21 Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I) at Belmont Park, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced July 13 that live coverage of the race has been added to the TV series "NTRA Summer Racing - Powered by Dodge."
