    Two juveniles from the Cleveland Wheeler consignment each breezed a quarter mile in :21 3/5 as the fastest time for the distance during Sunday's Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2002 Selected Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

    Redattore Spoils Lido Palace's Return

    Already a grade I winner on turf, Redattore added a grade II win on dirt Sunday at Santa Anita in the $250,000 San Antonio Handicap (gr. II). Under Alex Solis, Luis Alfredo Taunay's Redattore completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.66 on a fast track.

  • Wooden Phone Sidelined with Shoulder Fracture

    A shoulder fracture will force 2001 Strub Stakes (gr. II) winner Wooden Phone to the sidelines, according to trainer Bob Baffert. The conditioner said the injury was detected by a nuclear scan and that the 5-year-old will be out for about three months.

    Frequent Flyer Bailey to Ride You in Las Virgenes

    Jerry Bailey will have the opportunity to log more frequent flyer miles next weekend, when the jockey will fly to California from his South Florida base for the fourth straight weekend. Bailey will ride Bobby Frankel-trained You in the Feb. 10 Las Virgenes Stakes.

  • Lukas: $4.4-Million Yearling Purchase '50-50' for Sham Stakes

    Michael Tabor and Mrs. John Magnier's $4.4-million yearling purchase Shah Jehan might make his first American start in Friday's restricted Sham Stakes at Santa Anita. Though nominated to the 1 1/8-mile race, trainer D. Wayne Lukas is uncertain the 3-year-old Mr. Prospector colt will be among the starters.

  • Fountain of Youth Still the Plan for Maybry's Boy

    Trainer Shug McGaughey said Sunday that Maybry's Boy, a beaten favorite Hutcheson in Saturday's Hutcheson Stakes (gr. III), is still on track for the 1 1/16-mile Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. I) despite his fourth-place finish in the seven-furlong sprint. Meanwhile, the Hutcheson one-two finishers are less likely to start in the Feb. 16 Fountain of Youth as their respective trainers don't particularly like the two-week spacing between races.

  • Grade I winner Happyanunoit Booked to Giant's Causeway

    Happyanunoit, a champion in her native New Zealand before earning millionaire status in North America for John and Jerry Amerman's Amerman Racing Stable, is booked to European champion Giant's Causeway.

  • Request for Parole Takes WEBN Frog Stakes

    Trainer Stephen Margolis entered a pair of Judge T C colts in Saturday's $49,500 WEBN Frog Stakes, and the two justified their odds of 3-5 with one of the two colts holding the lead at every call in the one-mile test for 3-year-olds. Margolis-trained Request for Parole charged from just off the pace to win the race by 1 1/2 lengths over Perfect Drift.
