Buffum  , a speedy 5-year-old son of Bernardini  , will stand the 2014 season at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City, Md., for a fee of $3,500.

"Buffum was pure class," said Tom Albertrani, who trained the horse first for Darley and then for Godolphin. "He had so much natural speed and is the fastest Bernardini I have ever trained."

Bred in Pennsylvania by Brushwood Stable, Buffum was purchased by agent John Ferguson for $1.2 million at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.

Buffum retired sound after compiling a record of 4-1-0 in 11 starts, with earnings of $261,550. During his career, Buffum had three triple-digit Beyer figures and won the Bold Ruler Handicap (gr. III) in gate-to-wire fashion, getting the seven furlongs in 1:21.68.

Produced from the stakes-winning Storm Cat mare Storm Beauty, Buffum is a half brother to stakes winner Stormy West. Second dam Stick to Beauty, a stakes-winning daughter of Mr. Prospector, produced 17 foals, all winners, including champion Gold Beauty, the dam of English Horse of the Year and sire Dayjur and multiple grade I winner Maplejinsky.

Maplejinsky, by Nijinsky II, is the dam of champion Sky Beauty and granddam of grade I winners Tale of Ekati   and Pleasant Home, among other black type winners.
