Kaleem Shah's Fed Biz worked four furlongs in a quick :46 3/5 to lead a bevy of Breeders' Cup World Championships contenders who were on the track at Santa Anita Park Oct. 27.

A Kentucky-bred son of Giant's Causeway   pre-entered in the Dirt Mile (gr. I), Fed Biz is coming into the Breeders' Cup off a one-length victory in the Pat O'Brien Stakes (gr. II) at seven furlongs at Del Mar. His work was the co-fastest of the day among 57 horses that worked five-eighths of a mile.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, Fed Biz has won five of his 14 career starts, with four placings, and has earned $540,496.

The day began as most do in Southern California, with the sun rising over the nearby San Gabriel Mountains but soon gave way to a thick fog that was accompanied by cooler temperatures.

In one of the more unusual works, Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) winner Sweet Reason was given a time of 1:46 4/5 for a mile drill that appeared actually slower than that. The workers, their respective Breeders' Cup races, and times over on a fast track, were:

Blueskiesnrainbows, Marathon (gr. II), four furlongs, :47
Fed Biz, Dirt Mile, four furlongs, :46 3/5
Holy Lute, Dirt Mile, five furlongs, 1:00 4/5
Ismene, Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I), five furlongs, :58 4/5
New Year's Day  , Juvenile (gr. I), six furlongs, :1:13
Secret Compass, Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), five furlongs, 1:00 1/5
She's a Tiger, Juvenile Fillies, four furlongs, :47 4/5
Sweet Lulu, Filly & Mile Sprint, four furlongs, :49
Sweet Reason, Juvenile Fillies, mile, 1:46 4/5
Tale of a Champion, Turf (gr. IT), five furlongs, 1:01
Untapable, Juvenile Fillies, four furlongs, :49
