Stuart S. Janney III's homebred Data Link  , a multiple graded-stakes winner by top Claiborne Farm stallion War Front  , has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Claiborne in 2014, according to farm representative Bernie Sams.

"He was a very good, very consistent racehorse," Sams said Sept. 30. "He has an attractive pedigree, and it has no Mr. Prospector until the fifth generation. I think he will be a good outcross for a lot of breeders."

His stud fee has not yet been announced.

In 2012 Data Link won the grade I Maker's 46 Mile Stakes at Keeneland and set a course record in the 1 1/8-mile Monmouth Stakes (gr. IIT) at Monmouth Park. He closed out the year with a 2 1/4-length romp in the Citation Handicap (gr. IIT) at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Trained by Claude R. "Shug" McGaughey III, Data Link started 2013 strong by winning the one-mile Canadian Turf Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park. He went on to finish a length behind reigning Horse of the Year Wise Dan in the Maker's 46 Mile.

Data Link retires with eight wins, two seconds, and a third for earnings of $831,335.

Foaled and raised at Claiborne, Data Link is out of Janney homebred Database, a stakes-winning daughter of Known Fact. Database's full sister is stakes winner Vespers, who is the dam of grade I winner Hymn Book.

War Front currently is fifth on the general leading sire list. He has 15 current-year stakes winners including two-time group I winner Declaration of War, millionaire and multiple graded-stakes winner Departing, and group II-winning juvenile War Command.
