Charlie Appleby is scheduled to meet with the British Horseracing Authority's Licensing Committee July 10 in pursuit of his trainer's certificate. Godolphin has pegged him to take over training at its Moulton Paddocks.

Currently Saeed bin Suroor is serving as trainer at Godolphin's Moulton Paddocks operation since the eight-year ban of Mahmood Al Zarooni in April after he admitted administering anabolic steroids to horses. A statement from the BHA said it has received an application from Appleby to train on behalf of Godolphin.

Appleby has served as an assistant trainer to Al Zarooni and bin Suroor.

The BHA report into the positive samples for anabolic steroids taken from horses under the care of Al Zarooni is nearing completion. Its key findings, and any recommendations, will be shared with Godolphin. The BHA will also issue a press release on completion of the report. No announcement regarding Appleby's application will be made until the report has been completed and press release published.

In other BHA items of interest, after the announcement of charges against Gerard Butler June 7 following positive tests for stanozolol, all of the relevant papers together with the case summary have been provided to Butler and his legal advisors. The BHA is now waiting to hear back from them before seeking to agree to a timetable and a date for the hearing before the disciplinary panel.

The investigation into the extent of the use of the veterinary product Sungate by licensed trainers is nearing completion. Upon completion, the trainers interviewed as part of the investigation will be informed of the findings before any public announcement is made.
