Speedster Whiskey Romeo, a three-time stakes winner for trainer Tony Dutrow, heads a field of seven 3-year-old sprinters in the $100,000 Jersey Shore Stakes (gr. III) July 4 at Monmouth Park.
A Kentucky-bred son of Forestry owned by Morris Bailey, Whiskey Romeo will be cutting back a furlong from his most recent effort, a front-running 2 3/4-length tally in the Trippi Stakes April 26 at Belmont Park.
The bay colt out of the multiple stakes winning mare Yoursmineours began the season with a sixth in the Fred "Cappy" Capossela Stakes March 9 at Aqueduct Racetrack. That followed a juvenile campaign in which he was 3-for-3 with a pair of minor stakes wins at Laurel Park.
Joe Bravo rides Whiskey Romeo for the first time. They break from the far outside post with top weight of 118 pounds. Under allowance conditions, Whiskey Bravo was assigned two more pounds than each of his six opponents.
The six-furlong Jersey Shore is the 10th on an 11-race Independence Day program with an expected post time of 5:29 p.m EDT.
Jerry Durant's Amarish, trained by Steve Asmussen, won the Willard Proctor Memorial more than a year ago at Betfair Hollywood Park. The Scat Daddy gelding comes into the Jersey Shore off a sharp front-running score in a five-furlong off-the-turf allowance/optional claiming race June 6 at Churchill Downs. Paco Lopez picks up the mount.
New Farm's New Jersey homebred Rainbow Heir, undefeated in three starts, tries stakes company for the first time for trainer Ben Perkins Jr. The Wildcat Heir colt scored in front-running style May 12 over allowance company going six furlongs at Monmouth. Elvis Trujillo is back aboard.
