In the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities' latest "World's Best Racehorses Rankings" for performances Dec. 1, 2012, to June 9 of this year, three of the top four rated horses were based in the U.S.

Topping the list with a 130 rating was Black Caviar, the Australian sensation who retired earlier this year with an undefeated record in 25 starts, followed by North American Horse of the Year Wise Dan at 129. Tied for third on the list with a 126 rating were Animal Kingdom   and Game On Dude. (See complete list)

Officials with the IFHA and Longines also announced the Swiss watchmaker has entered into a sponsorship agreement that includes an award to be presented annually to the top three-rated horses in the IFHA's best horses rankings.

The agreement, announced by IFHA chairman Louis Romanet and Longines president Walter von Kanel, makes Longines an official partner and the official watch of IFHA and the official sponsor of the IFHA's best racehorse rankings that are released about 10 times a year.

The announcement said IFHA and Longines will present an award to the owners of the top three rated horses for the year during the Hong Kong International Races gala reception in December 2013.

Additionally, an annual "Longines and IFHA International Award of Merit" will be presented to an outstanding international personality of the horseracing industry that could be an owner, breeder, trainer, jockey or any person linked with the horse racing industry, the release said.
