NBC Providing 6 1/2 Hours of Belmont Coverage

The NBC Sports Group will provide 6 1/2 hours of coverage of the 145th Belmont Stakes (gr. I) beginning with a two-hour broadcast June 7. Pre-race coverage starts June 8 at 3 p.m. (all times EDT) and continues through 7:30 p.m. Post time for the race is 6:36 p.m.

Stories that will be aired during the broadcast include:

■ interviews with trainer Shug McGaughey and owner/breeders Stuart Janney III and Ogden "Dinny" Phipps about what happened to Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Orb   in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), in which he he finished fourth. The Orb team will also talk about what's at stake at Belmont Park, their home track;

■ a story on Mike Repole, the Queens, N.Y., native and soft drink billionaire who owns three horses in the BelmontUnlimited Budget, Overanalyze  , and Midnight Taboo.

■ an essay by Bob Costas on why the Triple Crown is one of the most elusive pursuits in sports, and;

■ an interview with trainer D. Wayne Lukas and jockey Gary Stevens, who won the Preakness with Oxbow  .
