In a near replay of last month's Texas Mile Stakes (gr. III), Master Rick galloped past stablemate Prayer for Relief in the stretch to win the $300,000 Lone Star Park Handicap (gr. III) by one length on Memorial Day May 27 (VIDEO).

With the victory, Richard Davis' Master Rick extended his streak to three after winning an allowance/optional claiming race at Oaklawn Park followed by his clear victory over Prayer for Relief in the April 27 Texas Mile at Lone Star Park, when the 4-year-old Master Command colt also rallied past his stablemate in the stretch. Master Rick and Zayat Stables' Prayer for Relief are both trained by Steve Asmussen.

Just four contested the 1 1/16-mile Lone Star Park Handicap after the scratch of Battle Hardened. Master Rick and jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. rated in third as Isn't He Clever led by one length through a half mile in :47.31. In the far turn, Prayer for Relief moved within a head of Isn't He Clever through six furlongs in 1:10.96 as he would soon seize the advantage.

But Master Rick launched his own move to pass Prayer for Relief in early stretch on his way to completing the race for 3-year-olds and older in 1:42.09.

Even-money favorite Master Rick returned $4.20 to win and $2.20 to place. Prayer for Relief returned $2.20 to place. The race had no show wagering because of the short field, but Formaggio finished third followed by Isn't He Clever.

Bred in Florida by English Ranch Farm, Master Rick improves his career record to 5-1-2 from 17 starts and earnings to $547,113. Master Rick is out of the Maria's Mon mare Whata Gem.
