Full Arlington Classic Awaits Admiral Kitten
The 1 1/16-mile turf event for 3-year-olds also includes Illinois Derby (gr. III) runner-up Fordubai.
Carded as race 10 of 11 with an approximate post time of 5:38 p.m. CDT, the Arlington Classic serves as the first leg of the Chicagoland oval's Mid-America Triple.
Admiral Kitten, trained by Mike Maker, has not finished worse than second in three turf starts for Ken and Sarah Ramsey. The homebred son of Kitten's Joy comes off a runner-up finish in the May 4 American Turf Stakes (gr. IIT) at Churchill Downs, his first start in graded company. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith will be in the irons from post 8.
Jim Tafel's Fordubai broke his maiden going the Arlington Classic on turf last fall. The versatile E Dubai colt also won sprinting six furlongs on dirt back in March before finishing 3 1/4 lengths behind Departing in the April 20 Illinois Derby (gr. III). Trainer Greg Geier will saddle, and Kent Desormeaux picks up the mount from post 5.
Stakes winners Brown Almighty, General Election, and Procurement have also been entered in the Arlington Classic. The first, a Big Brown colt owned by Tri Star Racing, Joe Denson, and Brent Gasaway and trained by Tim Ice, broke his maiden over the Arlington turf course last summer before shipping south to take the Sunny's Halo Stakes at Louisiana Downs while becoming his sire's first stakes winner. Eddie Castro gets the call from the 1 hole. Brown Almighty was fourth last time out in the April 5 Transylvania Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland.
WinStar Farm's General Election, runner-up in the April 20 Lexington Stakes (gr. III) over Keeneland's Polytrack, will be making his turf debut for trainer Kellyn Gorder. Joe Rocco Jr. rides the Harlan's Holiday colt from post 7.
Glen Hill Farm's homebred Procurement invades from Santa Anita Park for trainer Tom Proctor. The son of Milwaukee Brew won the La Puente Stakes over 1 1/8 miles at the Southern California track April 21. Garrett Gomez, who has been aboard Procurement in his last four starts, gets a return call from the 9 hole.
