Jockey Samantha Colvin got her first victory in the saddle when she guided Rocket Ninetyeight to victory in the first race at Pimlico Race Course May 2.

The 26-year-old grew up in Williamsport, Pa., and spent nearly a decade in the United States Army in signals intelligence.

"I'm here to ride and to win," Colvin said after her fifth career mount that has included two other placings.

Rocket Ninetyeight stalked the pace, moved three-wide into the stretch, took command, and drew away. Rocket Ninetyeight won the maiden claiming race by 3 3/4 lengths for owner/trainer Calvin Barth and paid $18.80.
