Busy Start to Kentucky Derby Week

The week leading up to the May 4 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) got a quick jump out of the gate, with three probables working at Churchill Downs and two horses removed from consideration.

Trainer Bob Baffert announced that Govenor Charlie had officially been withdrawn from Derby consideration, and trainer Todd Pletcher said Winning Cause will also not run in the 1 1/4-mile race.

The April 29 workers were:

Will Take Charge, five furlongs in 1:01, with splits of :11 3/5, :23 1/5, and :35.20. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:17.40.

Oxbow  , five furlongs in :59 4/5, with splits of :11 4/5, :23 2/5, :35 1/5, and :47 2/5. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:14 4/5.

Orb  , four furlongs in :47 4/5 in company. Finished four lengths ahead of a workmate, with splits of :12, :23 4/5, and :35 4/5. He galloped out five furlongs in 1:00 4/5 and six furlongs in 1:14 3/5.

Before being declared out of the Derby, Winning Cause breezed a half-mile in company with Red Rifle, stopping the timer in :48 1/5, with splits of :12 1/5, :23 4/5, and :36. He galloped out five furlongs in 1:01 3/5.
