Apprentice jockey Pierre Tomas was recuperating April 7 after fracturing his nose when unseated by his mount during the nightcap at Aqueduct Racetrack two days earlier.

Tomas, 20, was discharged from Jamaica Hospital late on the evening of April 5, several hours after his fall.

"He is sore and fractured his nose, but he’s doing fine," said the rider’s agent, Jean Luc Samyn. "He’ll see the doctor on Tuesday (April 9) and I don’t think he’ll be out too longmaybe the end of next week.”

Tomas was dumped in Friday’s ninth race when his mount in the maiden special race, Miz Owell, ducked in suddenly and then broke through the inner rail on the turf course. The 3-year-old New York-bred filly was apprehended by NYRA outriders and walked off the course.
