The National Thoroughbred Racing Association and Treasure Island Las Vegas announced that the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship will return to the Las Vegas property in 2014 when it will be held for three days for the first time.
The 15th renewal of the $1.5 million event sponsored by Sovereign Stables will be held Jan. 24-26, 2014.
"We are delighted to return the National Handicapping Championship to Treasure Island, which has done such an outstanding job hosting the past two NHCs," said Keith Chamblin, senior vice president of the NTRA. "A great many contestants at last January's NHC gave us unsolicited testimonials about how well they were treated and provided for at Treasure Island. The TI staff also does a marvelous job presenting so many races to such a large number of contestants. With the NHC becoming a three-day tournament for the first time in 2014, we are very pleased to return it to a venue that can expertly host our ever-growing event."
"We value our relationship with the NTRA and their participants, and we look forward to another exciting year of contests," Treasure Island owner Phil Ruffin said in a release from NTRA.
Treasure Island will host "Wager to Win" contests offering cash prizes and NHC qualifying berths to top finishers on April 7, May 5, and June 9.
The NTRA said complete contest format and rules for NHC XV are expected to be announced later this week.
