Chaposa Springs Choice is Gold Mover
Edward P. Evans' 3-year-old filly Gold Mover appears to be the class among 10 fillies and mares entered in the $100,000 Chaposa Springs Handicap (gr. III) at seven furlongs on the main track at Calder on Saturday. Jockey Eibar Coa will be aboard the daughter of Gold Fever for trainer Mark Hennig.Winner of the seven-furlong Forward Gal Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream last winter, Gold Mover won the Floral Park Handicap at Belmont in September and finished third in the Gallant Bloom Handicap (gr. II) later that month, beaten only a length for it all.Two other top contenders are local favorites--Barry Croft's 6-year-old Sugar N Spice, Cornelio Velasquez to ride; and Town and Country Corp.'s 4-year-old Coolbythepool, Mark Guidry up. Sugar N Spice has been a factor in the Distaff sprint division in Florida the last two seasons for her owner-breeder-trainer and finished a strong third in last year's Chaposa Springs.Marty Wolfson trained double grade 1 winner Chaposa Springs and won the race last year with English Rose. He sends out stretch-running Coolbythepool, a daughter of Notebook that has been running in middle distance races most of the summer, including her victory in the Shocker T Handicap.Completing the field for this race are Vague Memory, Julio Garcia; Bay Street Gal, Eduardo Nunez; Fly Me Crazy, Carlos Hernandez; Platinum Tiara, John R. Velazquez; Rich Peace, Jose Santos; Miss Inquistive, Edgar Prado; and Valid Forbes, Abel Castellano Jr.
